Still Standing after 236 years! The U.S. Constitution – signed September 17, 1787
…its only keepers, the people.
George Washington
To commemorate the September 17,1787 signing of the Constitution of the United States, Congress has designated September 17th of each year as Constitution Day and September 17-23 of each year as Constitution Week. Did you know that Congress enacted a law in 2005 that requires federal agencies and educational institutions receiving federal funds to recognize Constitution Day?
Public Law 108-447, Section 111 requires the following:
“…each Federal agency or department shall provide educational and training materials concerning the United States Constitution to each employee…on September 17 of each year.”
“…each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution.”
Check to see if events are happening to celebrate the Constitution in your community – particularly the schools! If not, you’ve got a year to get with school officials and see how you can help create something special in 2024!
Election Watch – 2023 is a big year too!
Attorney General Daniel Cameron
November 7th, 2023 – State Governor Elections in Southern States
If you thought elections weren’t happening until 2024, think again! Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi will elect governors this November. There’s an opportunity to flip a blue seat to red in Kentucky with a very promising candidate – Daniel Cameron. Consider supporting him by visiting his Campaign Page!
Of special note in this state is the declining health of U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell. Should Senator McConnell vacate his seat, the governor is mandated to appoint one of three candidates chosen by the departing senator (Kentucky – 2021 Kentucky Law Regarding U.S. Senate Vacancy) The sitting democrat governor fought hard to resist the law as it was enacted and has not confirmed compliance. Kentucky will be in better hands with the strong Republican Cameron at the helm!
