2024 Begins with the Republican Primary on March 5th!
It’s GO TIME!

Early Voting – February 14th through February 27th! Who’s on YOUR Ballot?

If you’ve not been under a rock, you know it’s time to vote for your Republican nominee for President! The presidential candidates will appear at the top of your ballot. But what else is on the ballot? LOCAL RACES and RNC DELEGATES!

Depending on your county, you will see a mix of school board candidates, property assessors, county commissioners and road superintendents. You also have a whopping choice of 66 candidates for at-large (statewide) delegates and 16 congressional district delegates to the Republican National Convention (see RNC Delegate 101 below)!

Your county election commission is the premier source for all essential election information! Republican National Convention (RNC) – Delegate 101

In the March Republican Primary, your ballot will include lots of choices for Tennessee’s delegates to the RNC in July. Our state is allocated 58 of the total 2,429 delegates from across the country. In Tennessee, committed delegates are affiliated with one of the Presidential candidates (as of last December). So you will see Presidential candidates that qualified for the ballot but may have withdrawn or suspended their campaigns. You can still cast your votes for withdrawn candidates and for their committed delegates. There are a few uncommitted delegates that have not chosen to align with any of the Presidential candidates.

Can more than one presidential candidate ‘earn’ delegates in Tennessee’s primary? Yes.

If a Presidential candidate wins more than 2/3rds of the vote in the primary, he or she will gain all the allocated delegates. If a candidate falls short of the 2/3rds majority vote, the delegates are split between the candidate with the most votes and any candidate that wins at least 20% of the vote.

Both Iowa and New Hampshire have proportional delegate selection. The delegate counts through the first two state primaries is depicted below:

Now, your ballot will show delegates pledged to support Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley. These delegate hopefuls filed petitions with the Secretary of State and obtained official authorization from those presidential candidates to appear on the ballot. Rest assured, the delegates were vetted to be sure they are legitimately committed for their stated presidential candidate!

Although you may vote for up to 3 candidates on the congressional district ballot and up to 14 candidates on the at-large ballot, you may wish to consider whether the delegates will vote responsibly regarding the party platform. If you’ve never reviewed the party platform, take a look here! The current platform was developed in 2016 and adopted in 2020 due to the limited attendance in the RNC Convention. Republicans need a STRONG platform for 2024 and you need representation from individuals that share YOUR values! Choose wisely!

Here’s the candidates that will appear on your ballot if you live in the 6th Congressional District:
