If you are a Lord of the Rings fan, you know this quote all too well. The ever faithful Sam accompanied Frodo through thick and thin to accomplish their mission. Two tiny Hobbits were unlikely heroes in the legendary tale but provide inspiration for us all. If you are entering this very important 2024 election year with a spirit of doubt and trepidation, take note that winning requires focus, grit and determination. This is a time for ‘all hands on deck’ in local, state and federal elections. Not a Tolkien fan? Try this inspiration:

What Can You Do?
Check your voter registration information. Have you moved since the last election? You can check to see what info is on file with the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office here. You’ll also see the appropriate congressional, senate and local districts for your residence.
Check the early voting schedule and absentee deadlines. Early voting begins February 14th and runs through February 27th. If you request and receive a mail-in ballot, you must return that ballot via mail (USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc) and it must be submitted so as to arrive at your local election commission no later than close of business on election day.
Inform yourself of the offices and candidates on the March 5th ballot. On the right side of this page are the names of the Republican candidates on the Presidential Ballot. A link is also provided to check out the delegate candidates. You will be able to vote for 14 at-large (statewide) delegates and 3 congressional district delegates. A future newsletter will discuss why the votes for delegates matter. In the meantime, note that almost all of the delegate candidates are committed to vote for a particular presidential candidate at the Republican National Convention. Assessor of property and some board of education positions are on the local ballot and those in the 13th judicial district will have a criminal court judge on the ballot. Remember – IT MATTERS WHO GOVERNS!
Believe in a candidate? Support them wholeheartedly! Display a sign in the yard or on your vehicle, attend meet-n-greet events – better yet, HOST an event to introduce your candidate to friends, family and neighbors. Sign up to help door knock or make phone calls. Donate to their campaigns! It’s expensive to advertise and you can help – even with a small contribution.
Show up for your local GOP! All across the Upper Cumberland, hardworking Republicans are planning and putting together events throughout the year. Show up! And SIGN UP! Bring a friend! 2024 is an endurance run to get to November and many hands make light work.
