A Nation in Mourning: Patriot Day 9/11/25

Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

Our nation is bereft mourning the victims of several horrific acts of violence in recent weeks

  • Innocent children killed at school
  • Young refugee killed on her way home from work
  • conservative speaker and 1st amendment advocate, Charlie Kirk, killed by an assassin

May we all seek God’s comfort today in the face of these tragic events. May we also seek ways in which we can comfort and strengthen one another.

In this issue:

  • Tributes for First Responders
  • Reagan Day Dinners
  • Special Events
  • September/October GOP Meetings

First Responder Tributes

Patriot Day 2025 is Back…and more!

Over the past two decades, the nation’s Patriot Day designation, originally assigned by Congress in 2001, has swung on a partisan pendulum between the original name and “National Day of Service and Remembrance”.

“Today, we honor and remember the souls who perished on September 11, 2001, and those who succumbed to illness and injury in the days, months, and years that followed.  We pray for the grieving families who carry their memories and for the survivors who bear enduring scars.  We praise the countless firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other first responders who ran into flames, sought the injured to save lives and offer comfort, and searched through rubble for signs of life.  We are eternally indebted for their selfless service.”

Excerpt, President Trump’s 2025 Proclamation of Patriot Day

In local Patriot Day events, communities honor the victims of the 2001 and 2012 terror attacks while also paying tribute to selfless public servants – the ones who run toward danger for the sake of others – firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other emergency responders such as paramedics/ambulance.

In the Upper Cumberland, two local Republican parties go an extra mile to demonstrate meaningful appreciation by hosting annual events:

Jackson County Republican Party hosts a community First Responders Breakfast.  This year, the meal will be provided on September 13, 7:30 – 9:30 am at New Hope Baptist Church in Gainesboro.

White County Republican Party hosts a Christmas Dinner in December for law enforcement officers and their families, also recognizing the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for both city and county organizations.

Thank you, Jackson and White Counties for providing events fully demonstrate giving back to those that serve us all!
