Countdown to Upcoming Elections

Spring is literally only a few days away and we’re all looking forward to thawing out after this week’s cold snap! Local county parties are busy hosting meetings where you can meet Republican candidates. Local candidates are also busy hosting their own Meet N Greet events. Do all you can to be an informed voter and bring along friends and neighbors. The best voters are the well informed voters!

Note that early voting starts a couple of weeks in advance of each of these elections! Going to be travelling? Check with the elections office to request an absentee ballot! You don’t want to miss your citizen privilege to vote for those who represent you!

State Executive Committee Meeting – March 21

The State Executive Committee of the Tennessee Republican Party meets three times a year. The meetings are typically open to the public and certainly to active Republicans. Non SEC members are seated in a different area to observe. Attendees may not participate by commenting or asking questions unless recognized by the party chair. There are breaks in which you may wish to speak to your SEC members with any questions or comments. Make them quick as we may need to head to the “loo” before picking up the remaining agenda items.

This year, the meetings are planned for March, August and December. For the March meeting, one item on the agenda is the term limits for local Party Chairs.

Currently, this is the only position with term limits. The National Committee, the State Executive Committee and State Chair positions have no term limits. No other local executive committee member has term limits.

The bylaws limit local party chairs to no more than two consecutive terms. Each term is two years. Exceptions apply to counties with populations of less than 50,000.

Drop me a note regarding your thoughts on removal of term limits for county party chairs at linda@lkclark.com.
